I started dying my hair red back in June and one of the main things I worried about, because I am a bit of a worrier me, was what kind of shampoo and conditioner to use. Obviously one for red or coloured hair, but which one to choose?
I've tested three very different brands in the last few months and thought it might be useful if I wrote some mini reviews on my experiences with each of them in the hope it might help someone else who's in the same position I was back then!
The three I tried were the Schwartzkopf Supersoft Colour Shine Red Berries, Aussi Colour Mate and L'Oreal Elvive Colour Protect.
Schwartzkopf Supersoft Colour Shine Red Berries
Right after I first dyed my hair I found myself in the beauty aisle of Home Bargains and decided to buy this on the spur of the moment because it was a cool 99p! Although I found it made my hair reasonably soft the overall results were just kind of average in comparison to the other shampoos I've tried since then.
It does have a nice fruity smell to it though, and for the price I paid I can't grumble too much. Compared to other more expensive shampoos and conditioners (and those not aimed at coloured hair) which have left my hair feeling really dry and dull, this is actually an o-k product.
Worth a 6/10 at least
Aussi Colour Mate
I'm a big lover of Aussi products so I had high hopes for this one. It comes with that distinctive "Aussi" smell that all their products have and I love, love, LOVE the witty caption on the front of the bottle..."Colour mate shampoo. For coloured hair, funnily enough." Too easily amused some might say!
I started using this as a booster when I was running out of the Schwartzkopf red berries. As a result I was able to compare the two and I did notice a vast difference. Whenever I used the Aussi stuff my hair had a lot more shine to it, plus it still smelt amazing even the day after I'd washed it. It didn't stop my colour from fading as much as the L'oreal stuff but other than that I can't really fault it.
For this I give it a 9/10
L'oreal Elvive Colour Protect
This is probably the best shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair (so far) which I have ever put on my head! I first used this when I was 19 after I decided to dye my hair purple and although it was only meant to be semi-permanent the colour lasted for MONTHS, possibly even half a year!
It doesn't smell as nice as the Aussi stuff but it's still pretty pleasant on the nostrils, plus it makes my hair feel all the things it should do - healthy, soft and so very shiny!
A definite 10/10 from me
Hopefully this is useful for anyone looking to buy a new duet of coloured hair shampoo and conditioner! Obviously everyone's hair type is different and so these reviews are only based on how I found they worked for me but hopefully you'll take away from this a few ideas on new brands to try!
