Florida 2016 Trip Report: Hollywood Studios

There were 2 reasons why I was looking forward to visiting Hollywood Studios;

  1. The rides
  2. STAR WARS

In total we spent half a day here (arriving early for extra magic hours), then returned later in the holiday for an evening to see the fireworks. In hindsight we probably could have spent more time here, but on the first day we visited it was so hot and busy we decided to head back to the hotel earlier than planned.

Favourite Rides

The Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Rollercoaster were 2 of my favourite rides when I visited Disneyland Paris, so I was excited to see how the Florida versions compared.

The Tower of Terror was just as good as the one in Paris. I think it will forever be one of my all-time favourite Disney rides. We rode it twice during the holiday and I love how the drops are different every time.

We also managed to get last-minute fastpasses for Toy Story Mania and I'm so glad we did. It's such a fun ride but the shortest we ever saw the standby queue was nearly 2 hours long!

Meeting Chewbacca was one of the highlights of the entire holiday (although I still find it weird to think of Star Wars as Disney!) He was such a good sport as well, taking time to pose for pictures with each of us individually. That look on my face is genuine joy!

Meeting Woody and Buzz - Hollywood Studios

The only other characters we met at Hollywood Studios were Woody and Buzz. I'll be honest, I was a little disappointed with this meet. We queued for nearly an hour and it felt like the cast member were trying to rush us through because we didn't have any kids with us. It's a shame because I love Toy Story.

Where we ate

We didn't bother planning any advance dining reservations for Hollywood Studios, which turned out to be a BIG mistake. I thought we'd be able to grab something quick but we struggled to find anywhere that catered for vegetarians. We must have spent over half an hour wandering around trying to find somewhere with decent air conditioning! In the end we grabbed a sandwich from the Starring Rolls Cafe and sat outside in the shade, which was just about bearable.

Luckily the snack options more than made up for it. Frozen lemonade and cookie dough ice cream... Mmmm.

Fantasmic

This was my favourite show of the whole holiday! The fireworks, singing, dancing and water effects were incredible, and it was a perfect way to end our last visit to Hollywood Studios. I don't want to give too much away, but the story basically follows Mickey (as the Sorcerer's Apprentice) battling against some of the most famous Disney villains.

The amphitheatre is HUGE, but if you're visiting during peak season it's still recommended to book fastpasses to make sure you get seats. We went at the end of August and managed to get good seats even without a fastpass.

Hope everyone's enjoying my Florida 2016 posts so far!
