Harry Potter Afternoon Tea at the Chocolate Deli in Worcester

If you're a regular visitor to my blog then you'll know I'm a BIG fan of Harry Potter. So when I heard a Harry Potter Afternoon Tea was being offered by a coffee shop in Worcester, I couldn't resist trying it out.

The Chocolate Deli is located on New Street in the centre of Worcester, which is less than a 10-minute walk from Foregate Street train station.

There were 5 of us who wanted to visit (me, my mum and my three sisters). We heard it was pretty popular so we made sure to book weeks in advance to ensure we got a table. Luckily they were able to fit us in at 12.30pm on Saturday 5th October.

This was actually the last day they were offering the Harry Potter Afternoon Tea in October before changing to a Halloween theme. Due to popular demand, it was brought back again in January 2020, so it's worth keeping an eye on the Chocolate Deli Facebook page for updates.

What's included?

After we were seated at our table we were offered a choice of breakfast tea or coffee (americano). Other drinks are available but must be paid for separately. The food was then brought to the table and they went through each item to explain what it was.

Top shelf:

• Chocolate-covered marshmallow broomsticks (gelatin-free)
• Treacle tarts with chocolate "wands"
• Platform 9 ¾ shortbread biscuits
• Golden snitch cake pops
• Butterbeer (served in a shot glass)
• Mandrake inspired chocolate pot

Botton shelf:

• Sandwiches
• Chocolate frogs
• Mini pizzas
• Cheesy "Hufflepuffs"
• Every-flavoured jelly beans

What did we think?

I'm happy to report that everything tasted as good as it looks! My sisters and I are vegetarian, and they were more than happy to accommodate us. The only difference I could actually see between the vegetarian and non-vegetarian afternoon tea was the sandwich fillings.

My favourite item was probably the chocolate-covered marshmallow brooms. As a vegetarian, I don't get to eat marshmallows that often so it was a nice surprise to find they were gelatin-free! The little shot glass of butterbeer was also very nice. In my opinion, it was nicer than the butterbeer you can get at the Harry Potter Studios in London!

The only (very minor) criticism I had is there's A LOT of chocolate. It was all delicious, but the sweet stuff definitely out-numbered the savoury. We couldn't finish everything, but they provided us with boxes to take away our leftovers.

The Chocolate Deli in Worcester offers different themed afternoon teas throughout the year. For example, in 2019 some of their previous themes have included Valentine's Day and Easter.

The price was also very reasonable. £15 per adult and £10 per child, which I think is an absolute bargain considering the quality of the food and attention to detail.
